Obama's Executive Order on Amnesty for Illegals is not the horror many are making it out to be. Not because it's a good thing but because it's not a new thing. I began my posting career on immigration issues in November of 1996 on the old AOL boards, so immigration topics are not new to me, nor are the statistics from then to now. Although in more recent years I've strayed from immigration issues.
In the mid-90s, the official count of illegals in the US was given as 9 to 11 million. Today the same numbers are still the official count. Obviously, anyone with a brain knows those numbers have not remained static during these years but have become much higher. Those in the process know it's closer to the 31 to 33 million mark and may be as high as 50 million.
From what I read, Obama's amnesty is for 4 to 5 million already here to get green cards and eventually benefits, in particular, social security, driver's licenses and welfare. Some say no health benefits but that's either an oversight or an outright lie. No one in the US is denied medical care, never have been. Go into most ERs and you get treated, whether you have insurance or money or nothing.
I suppose I should wait until after Obama's speech on Spanish speaking TV stations before I pass judgement but it's really the same old, same old, no matter what he says and does. The Bushes, Clintons and now Obama are all open border advocates, so this bull$hit has been around since 1988 with the election of GHW Bush.
Dire consequences for the US. Maybe. Probably. But things could be worse. Tomorrow I hear that the Michael Brown Grand Jury will issue their decision. I think what is expected to happen from that announcement is of far greater importance to the stability of our country, than handing out green cards to 5 million illegals.
Except for the criminal element, Hispanics/Latinos in general are hard working people, whose only problems are they are under educated and reluctant to give up their homeland heritage, which results in a couple generations of living here as foreigners instead of Americans. If you're coming here for a better life, for god's sakes, leave your former life behind. Dragging the old along only complicates your life and slows your advancement.
