By definition a right is not open to restriction without due process of law. By definition a privilege is some action a government has decided to allow--often after payment of a fee or purchase of a license.

The body of the Constitution sets forth the "privilege of habeus corpus"--absolutely not a right. The reasoning is that it may be generally suspended under certain specified conditions--no due process of law involved.

Driving is privilege, voting is a right. Being armed is a right, the practice of medicine is a privilege. Hunting is privilege, self-defense is a right.



President Reagan summed it up nicely, "Some people go through their entire lives wondering if they made a difference, Marines don't have that problem!!!"
