Haynes V. United States was a Fifth Amendment case that actually determined it was unconstitutional for a criminal to be charged for failure to register a firearm he was forbidden by law from even touching.

The reasoning of the court held that he would be required to testify against himself if he registered the weapon--a clear violation of his Fifth Amendment rights.

So yes, the USSC essentially ruled that firearms registration laws can only be applied to to non-criminals.
