This is why Bush wanted the surge, to take credit for anything good that might happen. No one is even there yet, so how can the surge be doing anything?

I do expect some positive results, but it's not going to be permanent. They know we aren't staying ten years, but they'll be there in ten years. Any US troop deaths will probably be forestalling a result that will occur whether we stay or not.

But since the surge has already "worked", can we call it off now?
