I understand why people don't vote, but I still think it's a very bad habit to get into. The national turnout was 36% this time, the lowest for many decades. If 80% voted, the campaigns would be different, and I think the candidates might be different too. Now it's all about going negative and driving people away from your opponent, and possibly from voting at all. The candidates don't have to give people a reason to vote for them if they can give enough reasons not to vote for the other guy. If enough Americans decide that it doesn't matter who wins, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and we have no one to blame but ourselves. We really do get the government we deserve.
