He saw an opportunity to lash out at a political opponent and he took it. It does not reflect well on Kerry--or on his standing with his fellow Senators, who (if Kerry were liked) would have gladly asked the tough questions and spared Kerry the discomfort of having to do it himself.

"Fitness to serve as an ambassador"--what a joke. Posts like Belgium are reserved for big campaign donors and special friends. No skills are needed, diplomatic or otherwise. It's been like that in every administration for a very long time. Fox bought his appointment and I'm sure he'll get what he paid for, but it's not unfair for him to hear a little something from Kerry about the way he bought his ambassadorship.
