I truly believe that man-made global warming is a variety of snake oil being offered for sale to the public.

But Char, while it may surprise you, I fully agree with that--the key word being "easily".

The problem being it wouldn't be at all easy.

Hydrogen could be used as an end use fuel--as petroleum is now used. An entirely new generation and transportation system would have to evolve that parallels whe one now in use or the hydrogen system would be still-born. Nuclear reactors would have be brought on line to replace the oil fields and refineries. Nothing involved would be either inexpensive or quickly attained.

I favor replacing fossil fuel use with other end user power sources to put an end to certain varieties of political/economic blackmail. Hydrogen is probably the most adaptable--as well as the least polluting. But the necessary technology simply doesn't exist at this time.

One of the stupidest ideas I ever ran across came from one of the GW people. It involved the use of orbital banks of solar cells that would beam power to the surface. This from some one who was worried about global warming--pure idiocy, and a near total lack of understanding of thermodynamics.

Oh well--I think energy independence is a noble goal. People like Al Gore would seem to have both a profit and a power motive.
President Reagan summed it up nicely, "Some people go through their entire lives wondering if they made a difference, Marines don't have that problem!!!"
