The nuclear waste problem is serious but we have a long history with it. It's not insoluble. We just need the will. Security will have to be stepped up to guard the potentially fissile material, too. But this is a proven technology that can be a huge contributor in a short time if we are willing to do it. In this case, I agree that hysterical lefties have helped panic the populace, which is perhaps understandably nervous about anything nuclear. New designs are even safer than the old ones, which in the US have proven very safe.
