Hi char,

Yes, yes, I understand that any criticism of Obama MUST be due to 'bile and spite'.

Of course it was a feel good proclamation. But proclamations needn't be false.

Obama would have been technically correct had he asserted, as you suggest he was asserting, that there were apparently 'a few Muslims in the colonies' prior to the American Revolution. But that's not what he suggested, your attempts to spin it notwithstanding. In fact, contrary to what Obama DID suggest, Islam has NOT 'always been part of America'. And that you further imply that when Obama used the term 'America', he was speaking about the entire history of the continent, is simply laughable.

I'm happy for any readers of this thread to decide who looks 'rather silly'. From the source YOU cited, in the very first paragraph:

"Islam however was almost completely absent in the United States until the 20th Century."

It would appear that your infallible fact source agrees with me, not Obama. I'll anticipate your hairsplitting on the word 'almost' and simply note that Obama used the word 'always'.

As for which Muslims Obama was referring to who have made 'extraordinary contributions, I guess they will remain anonymous.

Your 'Bible' confirms my point. And my condolences on the death of your sense of humor.
