It's funny you should bring this subject to the table. :rolleyes

I was just digesting something I saw on TV this morning. Sometimes I have to wonder how people get their priorities so confused.

They were showing a goldfish, with some kind of rig keeping it afloat, because the report said he was having trouble keeping himself (itself?) going. Apparently fish gotta swim. People took the time and energy, might not have cost much money, to save an ordinary, dime a dozen goldfish.

And then it reminds me of how often rescue crews go out of their way to save dogs. I mean dogs are cute and sometimes they are great pets and companions, but is it worth risking a life of a human to rescue a stranded animal? There are too many dogs anyhow, otherwise they wouldn't be after people to spay and neuter them, to keep the population down.

How come animals are more important to people, than other people? I know the cliches, the time worn phrases, but what really motivates a person to care more for his dog than he does his fellow man? Isn't it really a kind of mirror on the person with this mindset? Isn't he/she so unable to relate to other humans, that they transfer all their emotions onto a dog, who will lick any hand that feeds it?
